Why has FSSAI banned sugary drinks sold as ORS?

FSSAI, on October 15, banned the use of the term 'ORS' on any beverage that doesn't adhere to WHO's medical formula. WHO recommends oral rehydration solution (ORS) to have 13.5g of dextrose anhydrous (sugar) per litre. The ban aims to prevent sale of pharmaceutical-produced 'ORS' labelled sugary drinks, containing total sugar content of 120g/litre, of which 110g is added sugar.
