Pakistan is witnessing nationwide protests over rising fuel prices, high petroleum levies and rampant inflation. The petroleum levy is a fixed federal tax imposed on petrol and other petroleum products, contributing to government revenues. According to local media, the government is levying PKR 114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and PKR 100 per litre on high-speed diesel.
