Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025, enacted last year and effective from May 1, 2026, bans online real-money games. Advertising such games can lead to up to two years’ imprisonment and fines of up to ₹50 lakh. The proceedings are to be conducted mostly in digital mode, and concluded within 90 days of receipt of a complaint.
