US intervenes to help Japan's battered currency for first time in a decade

The US Treasury bought the Japanese yen on Friday to support the battered Asian currency, which recently hit its lowest level in 40 years, FT reported. This marks the first time that the US has intervened to support the yen in a decade. The Treasury sold euros for yen, hours after asking banks to "stand ready for future action".
