OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tried to secure billions in government funding by telling US officials that China was building an "AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) Manhattan Project", The New Yorker reported. When officials asked for the evidence, Altman said, "I've heard things." The Manhattan Project was a secret World War II programme by the US to develop the first atomic bombs.
