A Phi Commerce report stated that nearly one-third of all domestic digital payment transactions in India in 2024 were credit-driven through credit cards or interest-bearing EMIs. It added that credit cards and EMIs are used for "big-ticket" purchases in education and healthcare, with growth in digital credit adoption. Additionally, consumers rely on short-term credit for high-spend periods.
