Under the new EPF rules, 12% PF contribution is mandatory only up to the statutory wage ceiling of ₹15,000 a month, translating to ₹1,800 monthly regardless of actual basic salary. Any contribution above ₹1,800 is voluntary and can be adjusted or stopped anytime. Employers may match this extra voluntary amount but are not required to do so under the rules.
