E20 fuel formulation has 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline. Ethanol is a renewable biofuel made from plants like sugarcane and maize. Mixing it with gasoline can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expenditure on crude oil imports, supplement farmers' income and benefit rural economy, the government said. E20 can contribute in achieving India's Net Zero emissions goal by 2070, it added.
