After Kamla Pasand owner Kamal Kishore's daughter-in-law Deepti Chaurasia died by suicide, her mother alleged that Deepti was beaten by her husband and mother-in-law during her pregnancy in 2011. "They dragged my daughter down from the first floor and started...beating her," her mother alleged. She recalled sending Deepti back to her marital home after written assurance from her in-laws.
