Actress Rani Padmini, 22, and her mother Indirakumari, 46, were found stabbed to death at their bungalow in Madras (now Chennai) in 1986. Driver G Jebaraj, watchman Lakshmi Narasimhan and cook Ganeshan were accused of killing them over cash and valuables. All three were sentenced to death, but Jebaraj and Lakshmi Narasimhan later received life imprisonment, while Ganeshan was acquitted.
