Pernod Ricard, maker of Absolut vodka, hid Scotch whisky imports' composition and age to hide their true value and avoid paying ₹3,000-crore tax to India, Reuters reported. Indian investigators concluded that Pernod "intentionally complicated" disclosures with new malt codenames to make work difficult for customs officials. Pernod undervalued its bulk Scotch concentrate imports by 67.49%.
